Couples Activities to Explore This Summer
Looking to try new things with your partner this summer? Here are a few ideas to get you started!
Experiential & Interactive Dates
Bow River Float: Rent a raft from Lazy Raft Rentals, or Paddle Station, pack snacks and drinks and spend two to three hours floating down the bow river right into downtown.
Night at the Museum: Check out Spark after Dark at the Telus Spark Science Center. Held on select Thursday and Friday nights, these 18+ events feature themed cocktails, a DJ and full access to the science exhibits without having to compete with crowds of kids.
Skyline Luge: Head to Winsport (COP) and take the chairlift to the top of the hill, then race each other down the world’s longest continuous luge track in a wheeled cart. It’s fast, silly and highly competitive.
Foodie & Drink Adventures
The Barley Belt Brewery Crawl: Calgary’s craft beer scene is massive. Grab your partner and rent some scooters to hop between taprooms in the “Barley Belt” (Manchester/Inglewood area) or the Brewery Flats. Places like the Dandy Brewing Company, Esters, and Cold Garden (dog friendly) offer great flights and patios.
Taste of Calgary: Running from July 30th – August 3rd 2026, this festival allows you to sample bite sized dishes and drinks from dozens of Calgary’s best restaurants using sampling tickets. It’s the food date made for the indecisive orderer, where you can try ten different things in one evening.
Arts, Culture, & Romance
GlobalFest International Fireworks Festival: Held at Spruce Meadows in late August, this isn’t your average fireworks display. Different countries compete on different nights, synchronizing world class pyrotechnics to music over the lake. Pack a blanket, hit up the food trucks and watch the sky light up.
Calgary Folk Music Festival: Held at Prince’s Island Park from July 23rd – July 26th this year, the Folk Festival offers a variety of Indie, Blues, or folk music surrounded by trees and the Calgary skyline.
BUMP Festival Mural Hunting: The Beltline Urban Murals Project (BUMP) turns the city into an open-air art gallery every August. Grab a couple iced coffees and use their online map to do a self-guided walking or biking tour of the massive vibrant murals painted on various surfaces around Calgary.
Betty Lou’s Library: This speakeasy on the Beltline requires a reservation and a password to enter! The bustling city fades away, replaced by the velvety, candle lit grandeur of the 1920s prohibition era. Featuring themes cocktails, ambience and burlesque performances on select nights, this bar offers an opportunity to dress up and experience a different era.
