Every Child Learns Differently
Every child has strengths, and every child faces challenges. Sometimes kids work extra hard just to keep up. Sometimes they struggle quietly, and nobody around them really knows why. A psychoeducational assessment gives you a clearer picture, so you, your child's teachers, and your child themselves can support their growth, confidence, and learning in a way that actually fits how their mind works.
You know your child. Something just feels off.
IIf any of this sounds familiar, you're not overreacting, and you're not alone:
Homework feels stressful or overwhelming most nights
Big emotional reactions once school lets out
Trouble with attention, organization, or keeping up with classmates
Your child is curious (or you are) about how they learn best, and what might make school easier
Parents often tell us they've tried everything they can think of: new routines, tutoring, talking to the teacher, and the struggle is still there. That's usually a sign the "why" hasn't been answered yet. A psychoeducational assessment is how we find it.
What is a psychoeducational assessment?
A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive look at how your child's brain processes information: what comes easily, what's tricky, and how they solve problems. We assess for things like learning difficulties (including dyslexia), cognitive difficulties, ADHD, and the ways these can overlap and hide one another. It's common, for example, for a child who is struggling in school to actually be gifted but underperforming because of an undiagnosed learning or attention difference.
This isn't about passing or failing. It's about understanding, and about finding practical, usable ways to help your child thrive at school and at home.
Psychoeducational assessments at Viewpoint are for:
Children and teens (ages 5 through 16) who find school harder than it seems like it should be, or who seem bored and under-challenged
Kids who struggle with focus, organization, or specific subjects
Families who want to understand how their child learns best, not just what's "wrong"

What families gain from an assessment
A clear answer to "why does this feel so hard" instead of more guessing
A written report that schools recognize and can act on, including for programs like GATE and Westmount Charter admissions
Practical strategies your child's teachers and you can start using right away
Less conflict at home around homework and school stress, because everyone finally understands what's actually going on
Confidence for your child, who often already senses something is different and just wants to know why
How it works
We use activities and games to get to know your child's brain: what's easy, what's tricky, and how they work through problems. Every assessment includes:
Free 15-minute consultation, a quick conversation to understand your concerns and confirm an assessment is the right next step.
Testing sessions, in-person, one-on-one testing designed to feel approachable for kids, not clinical.
Report and recommendations, a full written report with practical, specific ways to support your child at school and at home, built to help parents and teachers meet your child where they're at.
If we recommend expanding the scope of testing partway through (for example, if something unexpected comes up), we'll always let you know and get your go-ahead before any additional cost is added. Nothing gets added to your bill as a surprise.
Clarity Backed by Expertise
-
Coverage depends on your extended health plan. Many families have some or full coverage. We've rarely seen a claim declined, but the exact amount depends on your individual benefits, so we recommend checking with your provider ahead of time.
-
Sometimes, if additional testing is recommended once we're underway. We'll always tell you before any additional testing happens and get your approval first. There are no surprise charges.
-
We assess children and teens roughly ages 5 through 16. Adult assessments are handled separately (ask us about our adult ADHD assessment).
