Who a gifted assessment is for
This assessment is built for children and teens who are curious, highly capable, or show advanced skills in one or more areas, including kids who seem bored at school, learn quickly, or stand out in creative, academic, or problem solving tasks.

What a gifted assessment can actually tell you
A gifted or GATE assessment helps families and educators understand a child's strengths, learning style, and how best to challenge them. It gives you clarity, validation, and a roadmap for growth, and it determines eligibility for gifted or talented programs where required. This is not a pass or fail test. It is a clear picture of how your child's mind works, so you can advocate for them with confidence.
How the assessment works
Through age appropriate activities, tasks, and observation, we explore your child's abilities and how they approach problem solving. Nothing about it feels like a school exam. Combined with input from parents and teachers, the assessment builds a full picture of how your child learns, thinks, and creates, and translates that into a report you can bring to their school or to a GATE application.
Who will work with your child
Cindy Woolfrey, Registered Provisional Psychologist, spent decades as a teacher, guidance counsellor, and ADHD consultant before retraining as a psychologist. That classroom experience means she understands what a gifted or twice exceptional child actually looks like in a Calgary classroom, not just on paper, and she is one of our providers delivering Cognitive/Gifted Assessments.
Nicki Rimke, Registered Psychologist and founder of Viewpoint Calgary, holds a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology and has done school liaison work specifically for psychoeducational assessments. She knows what Calgary schools, including GATE and Westmount Charter, are looking for in a report, and she builds that into every assessment.
What does it cost
Costs vary depending on the type and depth of assessment your family needs.
Cognitive/Gifted Assessment (testing only): FSIQ or GAI scores, no written report. Base rate $750.
Cognitive/Gifted Assessment (testing with report): full testing plus a detailed written report. Base rate $1,220.
GATE Referral Assessment: meets requirements for referral to the Calgary Board of Education's Gifted and Talented Education program. Base rate $1,925.
